It looks like maybe an Army uniform - American. What was his last name? Do you have his date of birth? Any idea when he immigrated?

Thank you so much, Jennifer! I will definitely check out your resources - they sound wonderful! In terms of determining exactly where he went after the war, well this has come to a standstill as the last records of him I can find so far are in Germany, where he was last seen by my family. But I persevere and still have much hope of finding him.
